Dr. Chris Winfrey completed his undergraduate education at the University of Central Arkansas, graduating with a B.S. in Biology in May 2006. While an undergraduate student, he was involved in various projects such as the Arkansas Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network Arkansas to study the Immune responses in the CNS: The roles of microglia and astrocytes in CNS infectious disease.
He completed his medical education at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, College of Medicine where he obtained his M.D. degree in May 2011. While a medical student at the College of Medicine, he participated in research entitled “Outcome of Metabolic Syndrome in elderly patients receiving treatment with Atypical Antipsychotics’ through the Institute on Aging, Little Rock Arkansas.
During his early education, Dr. Winfrey was an active volunteer for organizations attempting to enhance the lives of citizens of all ages in Arkansas. To name a few:
- Panelist for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Sponsored by Talented Tenth minority group:“Rethinking W.E.B. conception of the Talented Tenth.” November 2009.
- Student National Medical Association, Arkansas August 2007-May 2011.
- Under Construction, Little Rock, Arkansas. Support low-income families with beds food, and relational support. December 2005-May 2007.
- Young Life, Arkansas. Development of Inner City Urban middle and high school programs. December 2005–May 2007.
After completing his medical training, he obtained residency training in the specialty of psychiatry at the University of Texas at Southwestern and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. During his residency, he held significant positions that included: Associate Chief Resident of Education that developed education curriculum and teaching residents and medical students. He participated on the Patient Safety Committee. Dr. Winfrey has been trained in advanced psychopharmacology. He is also well trained in individual therapy, family therapy, cognitive therapy, behavior therapy and psychoanalytic therapy.
While in residency, he received a number of awards. To name a few:
